Buying a Home for Your Pet in Abu Dhabi

The rules matter more than the property type.

Pet-friendly is not a label a developer can give a property; it is a set of rules that each building or community writes for itself. That is why two identical apartments can be a fit and a non-starter for the same household. The right order is to check the rules first, and the layout second.

Who sets the rules

Each building's owners association or each community's master developer sets its own pet rules, covering size, number, breed limits and the use of lifts and common areas. There is no single Abu Dhabi rule for apartments, so ask for the written rules of the specific building.

Why low-rise homes help

Villas, townhouses and garden homes give you private outdoor space and less shared circulation. Reem Hills, Mangrove Place's townhouses, Hilton Residences Al Raha's townhouses, Stellar by Elie Saab's garden villas and the Four Seasons Saadiyat Beach villas are the low-rise projects in our directory.

If you want an apartment

Ask about a balcony you can safely use, the lift rules, the nearest green space and whether there is a dedicated pet area. On Al Reem Island, Reem Central Park is the main green space, and Park View Tower and Pixel are described as next to it.

Get it in writing

Get the pet rules in writing before you sign, and check municipal pet-registration requirements as well. A rule you assumed can end a purchase that otherwise suits you.
